Aspyr have been working through the Star Wars video game back catalogue at a steady pace, and now it is 2002’s Star Wars: Bounty Hunter that is getting the remastered treatment. It’s a title I actually remember quite fondly from my younger years, but has the last twenty-two years been kind to it? Well… sort of.
Check out some screenshots down below:
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter takes place ten-years before the events of Attack of the Clones, with players taking on the role of Jango Fett after he has been hired by Darth Tyranus (more commonly known as Count Dooku) to eliminate a Dark Jedi known as Komari Vosa. Of course, things get more complex than that and you find yourself wrapped up in a plot involving crime syndicates and other bounty hunters, but it has all of the hallmarks of a Star Wars side-story (including a few familiar faces and tie-ins to the plot of the movies) that fans are sure to love.
When it comes to the gameplay, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter offers the standard third-person action that you’d have come to expect from an early 2000s release. You have a decent variety of weaponry that can be used to deal with the different threats you face off against, whilst there’s even a bit of platforming thrown in for good measure. And it’s all… alright. Some iffy AI and bullet-sponge enemies stand out as the more obvious issues, but they didn’t stop the game from being fun to play – especially with the solid and varied level design that ensured the roughly six-hour runtime doesn’t run out of steam.
“Things like the enhanced lighting and textures certainly make it prettier to look at, whilst the revamped controls are more intuitive and help modernise the experience.”
One of my favourite things about this remastered release of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is the enhancements and additions introduced. Things like the enhanced lighting and textures certainly make it prettier to look at, whilst the revamped controls are more intuitive and help modernise the experience. However, it is worth noting that the camera can be a bit of a nightmare at times, with plenty of occasions where it would feel fiddly when trying to pull off a platforming manoeuvre or would just bug out when locking-on to enemies. It’s not completely unbearable, but it did give a reminder of just how far third-person titles have come with their camera controls.
Want to know the COOLEST new addition? Once you beat the game, you can play through again with a Boba Fett skin. This is something which was actually teased when the game originally released but was never included, but Aspyr have rectified that, with players now able to experience the adventure as the BETTER Fett… on their second playthrough, of course.

I spent a lot of time with Star Wars: Bounty Hunter on the Steam Deck, and I’m happy to report that it plays flawlessly. I played through with maxed settings at 60fps, with zero noticeable drops across my playthrough. It was definitely my preferred way to experience the adventure, and I’m sure the appeal of playing handheld will certainly catch the attention of those who loved the game back in the day.
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter Review
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter can feel dated in design, but offers enough fun to make it worth checking out in 2024. The iffy camera and some sketchy enemy AI stand out as the worst offenders, but the solid level design, cool combat, and worthwhile remastered enhancements help ensure that modern audiences will be able to enjoy it.
It could be argued that new players might not be able to forgive some of the more obvious issues, but those who have fond memories of playing back in the day will appreciate the blast to the past.
